Madeleine Broussard
As you can read, I'm Madeleine Broussard. I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana seventeen years ago, yet as you can tell since I attend the University of Georgia, I have since moved from the Cajun country. However, I did not come straight to Athens from Louisiana. You see, my father has had opportunities to move his job to different locations around the world and ultimately, he took those opportunities. I spent my childhood moving around. I've lived in three different countries in the past seventeen years: the United States, the United Kingdom, and the land down under- Australia. Honestly, and unfortunately, Australia was a bit of a blur to me because I was pretty young when we lived there (from the time I was about five until I was around seven), yet that was the first international move we ever committed. The town we lived in, Alice Springs, was very dry and small. If any of you have ever been to or seen pictures of Sydney and Perth, where we lived was just about the opposite. We moved to Chantilly, Virginia after living in Australia for two years, which wasn't nearly as cool as our next move another two years later to Harrogate, England. Here is where I spent my awkward middle school years, from the time I was nine to when I was fourteen. Going to an English prep school really shaped the person I am and the way I think about the world and I really loved living there. If I had the chance to go back and visit, I would in a heartbeat. That's what made the move back to the U.S. so hard. When I heard we were moving to Augusta, Georgia I was devastated to leave, yet without moving there I would have never ended up here at UGA. So, because of that I'm thankful for all the plane rides I have had to endure.
