Although I, Madison Newman, originally had no intentions of studying law, my first year of college has broadened my views on a different future. Originally an intended business major with the possibility of entering risks management, my peers, tutors, and teachers have undoubtedly stirred up some confusion in my initial plans of college. I have received many comments about how I should become a lawyer and just have that "look" this year alone. And while I never really imagined it before, the thought has definitely grown on me. I have never really pictured myself as the argumentative type, but freshmen year has certainly altered that opinion. I'm also the kind of person to avoid confrontation at all costs, but I have branched out these past few months at school. On the other hand, I do not necessarily want to go into criminal justice, but rather corporate law. I truly think I would enjoy the research aspects and focused mindset this occupation entails. Advising and assessing contracts and handling the array of legal issues for businesses do seem quite appealing, but I still need to weigh out the pros and cons. The thought of an additional three years of school seems a bit overwhelming, too, but I wouldn't mind the learning and hard work if I was interested in the topic. Overall, I feel as if I'm essentially trapped in my own lawsuit while coordinating plans for my future. I know I still have an abundance of time to figure everything out, but I would prefer to get it accomplished sooner rather than later.
