Madelaine Volpe
Brooklin, Ontario
My name is Madelaine Volpe and I have a love for communications, people, travel and music. Growing up in the small village of Brooklin Ontario, I have had the amazing opportunity to build relationships with many members of my community. Everyone knows each other, and it is an amazing feeling to have some sort of connection with your neighbours. Today I continue to hold those personal values and love to network with people everywhere I go. My ability to network has benefited me in all aspects of my life, especially while travelling the world. I believe that building relationships is the best way to embark on new adventures in your personal and professional life.
From a young age it was apparent that I was a loud, outgoing and vocal girl, and that has helped me become the confident PR professional I am today. My love of singing and music has given me the opportunity to perform on stage at multiple venues, and I believe that is why I have the ability to be a confident public speaker.
Following my high school graduation in 2011 I began my college career in the one-year Pre Media Communications program at Durham College. Within the first few months in the program I was told about the Public Relations program also offered at the college. Once I realized I knew I wanted a career combining communications, advertising, and marketing I knew PR was the next step for me.
I am currently in my last week of the two-year advanced PR diploma program and I have learned a lot about the industry and gained hands-on experience along the way. Not only am I well versed in writing media releases, news releases, feature stories, critical paths and event debriefs, I have also learned how to excel using Adobe programs for design. This program gave me the opportunity to work at a non-profit organization (Crohn's and Colitis Canada) where I learned how to assist on a national campaign, and I am soon to begin my summer internship as the Assistant Event Planner at Annandale Golf and Curling Club in Ajax.
Throughout my professional career as a communications and public relations student, I have found that I love the social media, design and collaborative aspects of public realtions and I want to showcase those skills in my future career. In the months and years to come I am hoping to travel the world and work for a company I am passionate about.
