Madelyn Morris
Teacher in Michigan
Hello! My name is Madelyn, and I am a teacher living in Michigan. I am a fan of technology, travel, and reading. I’m also interested in the arts and music.
I am originally from Traverse City, MI and I studied English and Education with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Michigan State University . I completed my 6-12 certification and my first year of graduate school in May of 2013. I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Education degree at Michigan State (MAED) and I teach English 9 and 10 at South Lyon High School, in southeast Michigan.
In my free time, I try to get back up to Traverse City and visit family as much as I can. I love spending time out on the water: swimming, boating, paddle boarding, and canoeing. I also enjoy biking around the many trails in northern Michigan and running; I have participated in many 5K and 10K races and in May I completed my 4th half marathon, and I am currently training for my next race. When I can, I try to travel as often as I can; last summer I spent a week in Italy with my husband, and we will be traveling to Ireland this summer. I also enjoy going to concerts with my sister, playing with my cat, Minnie and reading.
In my own teaching, I hope to continue to provide many different opportunities, styles, formats and mediums for all students to shine and become interested. I stand behind the belief that the learning environment should be a place that is safe but also a place where everyone is free to show their individuality. I feel that experimenting, and becoming educated in new material is the best way to learn, so in turn, I work to structure the lessons and curriculum that I plan so as to provide as many choices and alternatives as possible in what and how the students learn and create.
