Madison Emerick
Teacher in St. Louis, Missouri
I am currently teaching with an online company called VIPKID based in Beijing China. I work with children from ages three to thirteen everyday in an English immersive program. Meanwhile, I am completing my teaching certification in English and my second Master's degree in Education here at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In addition, I have a Bachelor's degree in English from UMSL and an MFA in Creative Writing in Children's Literature from Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
I have past teaching experience at the elementary, junior high, and post-secondary level. While completing my MFA, I served as a teaching assistant for professors in creative writing, African-American literature, race, and film studies. Prior to my teaching assistantship, I volunteered as a tutor at the Youth Learning Center of St. Louis, an extra-curricular program for urban school districts.
When I am not teaching or in class, I like to write. I have been published in "The 3288 Review" and "Flash Fiction Magazine." During my undergraduate studies, I was one of the founders and president of the UMSL Writer's Group (TUWG) which is still running today. I also assisted as an editor and page master of Bellerieve and Litmag, respectively, which are two, local, UMSL publications and literary magazines.
I also enjoy making art (which I have included a link to in my photos) and have a particular interest for portraiture. While I am getting my certification in English, I hope to also pursue certification in art and German later down the road.
