Call me a typical millennial, but digital media completely intrigues me. Perhaps because I have a curious nature to continuously learn, or possibly because I enjoy the vast capabilities of online media. The rate that it changes also puts an interesting challenge on things.
But like any true love, I know when I dig down to the core of it there's one main reason why digital media holds a place in my heart.
Like any digital marketer, Ill tell you that I'm a data nerd who enjoys analyzing metrics. With digital media, the capability to track (non-personally identifiable) behaviours online really gets my juices pumping. And while metrics and data can justify and help guide decision making - it's not 100% accurate (even in today's digital world).
At this point you're (un) likely sitting on the edge of your seat wondering 'what does she love about digital media then' . You may even be one of the elite few (basically everyone) who wonder what good can come from such a poorly regulated industry...
For me, my love from marketing was sparked by a desire to understand human behaviour and discovering genuine ways to connect with PEOPLE. It's the most basic, fundamental and traditional form of marketing - but it's also the best and most valuable way to develop a loyal following. If we can get better at aligning products and services to people who want or need them, then I'm doing my job right. The targeting abilities of digital media and the ability to learn and gather data on groups of people has managed to break down the barriers we as marketers have struggled to understand with traditional media. By learning more about our ideal audiences we can then craft better messaging that connects and discover ways to reach people where they want to be found (online OR -- take a breath -- offline).
If you're one of the few remaining digital marketers who still crave human contact drop me a line (not a real line, a digital message, to prevent spam Y'ALL). See you out in the digital wilderness.
Don't forget, be a human.
