Magon Danèèl Mouton
Artist in Sandton, Johannesburg
Hey, I’m Magon Danèèl Mouton. I’m a Cultural & Creative Industry Professional living in Johannesburg, South Africa.
I graduated from the University of the Free State with a B.A. Drama and Theatre Arts degree in April 2014, graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a B.A. Honours in Arts, Culture and Heritage Management and is currently an MA candidate in Cultural Policy and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand. I am currently working as a Regional Manager for the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal – en Kultuurvereniging).
At the UFS I received numerous accolades for academics, service and leadership. I was a F1 leadership scholarship award recipient to Texas A&M University in the USA in 2011 ; A program aimed at building relationships with partner Universities in the US. I also held various student leadership portfolios in varsity.
I am passionate about public speaking, women’s rights and mentoring young, disadvantaged students. I mentor high school leaners in the Soweto area on a weekly basis and also reach out to various communities through my work within the ATKV structure .
In 2016, I was selected by Barclays ABSA as one of the 100 Brightest Young Minds in Africa. BYM looks for go-getters between the ages of 20 and 35 who are African or living in an African country. Most importantly, those they identify have demonstrated their commitment to positive social change through their actions, initiatives, start-ups and campaigns in their communities.
When I’m not writing or creating programs, projects and campaigns to help small branches of the ATKV in communities across South Africa with cultural projects and ideas, you can find me with my nose in a book on the couch or running barefoot around my house pretending to be a heroine in a Greek tragedy.
I have a keen interest in music, travel, and the arts. I’m also an avid reader and try to stick to my weekly retail therapy appointments, no matter how empty the bag is. I often grapple with social media and my place in it, but since it’s sown into the fabric of an interactive society - and because I want to pass the vibe check - I’m here and I’m trying 💪🏽
