Maha Ramamurthy

I am a PhD candidate in the Developmental and Brain Sciences program at the University of Massachusetts Boston with broad interests in understanding the cortical mechanisms that underlies visual perception in adult humans. My thesis work focuses on understanding experience dependent plasticity of the adult brain and the influence of attention (cognitive/feedback modulations) on ocular dominance plasticity.

My interests in studying the visual system started very early, primarily due to the alarming rate of blindness reported in India, where I grew up. My naiveté interest in optometry was simple curiosity to explore and understand how the eye functions and what causes dysfunction. I am fortunate to have inspiring lecturers who spared no effort to promote my interest and inquisitiveness.

My masters’ work was on “Color discrimination thresholds and acceptability ratings on simulated Microtile displays”, under the supervision of Dr. Vasudevan Lakshminarayanan, at the Department of Optometry & Vision Science at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

I am part of the Human Vision Lab at UMass, Boston.
