About the Artist:

Yeya (Mahalia Jean-Pierre) is a soulful pop singer, songwriter, and painter from Massachusetts. She began her music career with her vibrant sound, doing street performances of her original songs and covers. After graduating high school, Yeya left the east coast for Los Angeles California to pursue music.

“I came out here with $500 in my pocket to follow my dream of playing music and to provide a better life for my son. He loves music. ”

She is currently dedicated to her craft, and diligently building the foundation of her musical discography. The new single, Amongst Wolves tells the story of how Yeya came to LA, aimed everything she had at her music, and never looked back. With a deep and moody intro, and a compelling story, the song quickly expands and bursts into a fun rhythmic chorus, with reggae influence. The juxtaposition represents how Yeya has had many great opportunities for her music, while not living in the best circumstances.

Yeya even performed at the Staples Center for 13,000 people while staying in an old motel with her son. Some of our favorite lyrics mention that “the rock at rock bottom” is sometimes the rock that you need. Through an internship for disadvantaged youth she connected with Spotify, confirming her hopes, and propelling her into a greater realization of her purpose.
