Maira Garcia

Brooklyn, New York, United States

Hello. I am Maira Garcia. I am a night web producer at The New York Times. My job is to make sure the award-winning stories, photos, videos and interactives from the Times appear on nytimes.com.

Basically, I help tell our content management systems what a story should look like and what elements it needs to provide the reader with the "full story" online. It involves writing and editing, photo editing, coding and juggling the requests of reporters and editors to make a story look the best it can online.

In the past, I have worked as a social media editor, video producer, webmaster and reporter. It is this mash-up of skills that prepared me for my role at the Times.

I graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos with a master of arts degree in mass communication in 2009. I did research on political communication, social media, Latino media and print media while I was there. I still have the 30+ page papers to prove it. I received my bachelor's from Texas State in 2007 as well in print journalism and political science.
