Makwete Letswalo
Student and Teacher in johannesburg
Hello! My name is Letswalo Makwete Jay, and I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education at the University of Johannesburg, specializing in the Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (FET) phase. My majors are Sepedi and Physical Education (PE),two subjects that reflect both my cultural identity and my passion for healthy living.
My journey into teaching began in Grade11, when I started assisting my classmates with their studies. That experience revealed how much I enjoy helping others understand and grow, and it’s what sparked my commitment to becoming an educator. I’ve since had the opportunity to complete teaching practicals in local schools, where I developed lesson plans, gained classroom management skills, and strengthened my belief in the power of education to transform lives.
As an aspiring PE teacher, I’m especially passionate about promoting fitness, wellness, and active lifestyles. I believe that our daily routines shape our long-term health, and I aim to guide learners in making choices that benefit both their physical and mental well-being.
I’m also deeply connected to my cultural roots and proud to be fluent in Sepedi. This allows me to build stronger relationships with learners and adapt my teaching in a way that is culturally relevant and inclusive.
Outside of the academic world, I have a strong interest in how things work, particularly engines and heavymachinery. I enjoy understanding complex systems and exploring how they function. I also have a growing passion for billiards, and I’m working toward becoming a more advanced and competitive player in the sport.
At the heart of my journey is a simple philosophy: “Teaching is not just about delivering content, it’s about inspiring learners to believe in themselves and discover their full potential.”
My long-term goal is to create engaging, inclusive learning environments where learners thrive physically, intellectually, and emotionally. I’m committed to becoming a well-rounded educator who makes a meaningful difference in and beyond the classroom..
