I’m Malachy and I’m a Theatre and Performance student returning from a placement with Theatre Deli London. My main interests lie in creative producing and directing, and I am currently aspiring towards an MA in Directing Fiction at the National Film and Television School.

During my placement year, my role developed from an assistant producer to the company's comedy producer. I created and produced a series of compilation comedy nights and a month-long comedy festival which featured 45 previews of upcoming comedy tour shows. Throughout the year I worked with people including Romesh Ranganathan, Marcus Brigstocke, Joel Dommett, Nish Kumar, Josh Widdicombe, Nina Conti, Felicity Ward and Jamali Maddix. I managed every aspect of the festival including programming, budgeting, marketing, staff co-ordination, creating content including poster/flyer designs and social media content, tech operation, photography etc. The festival was a success and gained recognition from The Stage, Metro, Evening Standard, Time out and the British Comedy Guide: https://www.comedy.co.uk/live/preview/the_deli_comedy_festival/

I was the company's photographer/videographer which lead to paid work for external companies at venues and festivals such as the Barbican, Soho Theatre, Vaults Festival and Brighton Fringe. I have a good understanding of Adobe post-production software including Premiere Pro and After Effects. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGrSBU8jkGo) I also designed marketing content such as posters, flyers and videos for events and performances at their London venues using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

In terms of directing, I gained significant experience through the university's Theatre Society in my second year when I co-directed their production of Fahrenheit 451 while working as the society's VP. There were also smaller-scale productions that I was able to get involved in creatively during my time on placement.

Creative writing is an interest that I keep up in my spare time – I have written many playscripts and screenplays. I have taken creative writing modules here at Uni, a screenwriting course at UEA, and have a subscription to Masterclass.com.

My creative interests centre around immersivity and atmosphere in live/visual art. My dissertation will explore how binaural technologies can augment representational, artificial realities in immersive theatre and how sound, noise and music can create atmosphere and sustain immersivity
