Maleka Fruean
Maleka Fruean is a writer, publicist, and community events coordinator. She has created and organized specialized and effective arts and culture events and programming for Big Blue Marble Bookstore, Greenfest Philly, LAVA, Ladyfest Philly, iMPerFEct Gallery, and Torchlight Collective. Her creative writing has been published in the Molotov Cocktail literary journal, and her journalism has been published in WHYY NewsWorks, Germantown Avenue Parents, Patch, and Elevate Difference (formerly The Feminist Review).
Her press/ publicity work for Big Blue Marble Bookstore has gotten a cover story in the Philadelphia Weekly for the store opening, major articles in the Philadelphia Inquirer, City Paper, and every Northwest Philly newspaper, a nomination for a national independent bookstore award within the first three years of business, and a Best of Philadelphia award within the first year and a half of business.
She's created and coordinated special events and programming like: the Mt. Airy Kids' Literary Festival, Mt. Airy Village Fair, Sustainability Salons, Kids' Programming at Greenfest Philly, The Swap Shop for Torchlight Collective, Flash Fiction from Philly's Finest, and much more.
She currently lives in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia and can see the possibilities that await her community and every community.
