Argentinian-Italian lyric soprano Malena Napal Porpiglia has been recognised for the warmth and flexibility of her voice. She started singing as a child in the Teatro Colon's children choir but later followed violin studies at the conservatory of Buenos Aires. Then, Baroque Violin, Basso Continuo and Early Music studies at the Utrecht Conservatorium (NL) and KCB of Brussels (BE) before returning definitely to singing.
She obtained her bachelor diploma in Voice, with distinction, at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Lena Lootens and she’s currently completing her Masters in interpretation at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (CH) in the class of Delphine Gillot. She also receives vocal and professional guidance from Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet and Andrea del Bianco.
She has taken part in masterclasses given by Inge Spinette, Dimitry Tiliakos, Mtro. John Fiore, Sandrine Piau, Stephan MacLeod, and Veronique Gens among others.
Malena has performed the roles of Despina in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, Dalinda in Handel's Ariodante, Drusilla, Virtù and Fortuna in L'incoronazione di Poppea and Orfeo in L’Orfeo by Monteverdi, Maddalena in Caldara's oratorio Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème.
Malena is a member of Collegium Vocale Gent, with whom she has performed in some of the most important concert halls in Europe.
She’s fluent in Spanish, Italian, English and French, and has a good knowledge of German.
