Malyssa ten Hove
Student in Leiden, Nederland
Hello!
I am Malyssa, 28 years old, born in Schiedam, the Netherlands. BTW, on the photo the left person ;). The other person is my one and only sister.
I am a student at the ICLON in Leiden and study to become a bilingual biology teacher in high school. I did my bachelor study in biomedical sciences and wanted to obtain my teaching degree in the second year of my biomedical science master. I choose to become a teacher because I am very interested in the basic biological topics, really like to work with young adults and wanted to have a more interactive job in the future.
In my spare time I like to visit art exhibitions, play basketball and drink coffee. Also I have two white bunnies called Yeti and Keba.
My internship is at the Wolfert Bilingual in Rotterdam. Most of the pupils have Dutch as their first language and learn English as their second language. So far, I don't have so much teaching experience yet but I have been observing a lot of lessons in different subjects. I will start teaching two 1th year and one 4th year classes after the autumn break.
What I really like and also find challenging about being a teacher is to convey your knowledge in a fun and interesting way. An extra challenge herein is that I also have to teach the biological content trough the English language, which also makes me a language teacher. In this bilingual setting the pupils get familiar with the English language early on, from which they will benefit in future career plans but also generally in life.
EVALUATE:
I am excited to participate in the Evaluate project and hope to have interesting discussions on CLIL strategies with our collaborative school. I am curious what comes out of it and hope we will be able to learn a lot from each other.
