Mamie Howard Golladay
Mamie Howard Golladay served as President of Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) for over 13 years before retiring in August 2011. As a president of one of the 30 community colleges in The State University of New York (SUNY) system, Mamie Howard Golladay oversaw the leadership and operation of the college while advocating with fellow presidents to affect the state’s higher education agenda.
Mamie Howard Golladay’s own higher education began at Reid State Technical College, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She continued down that path with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mamie Howard Golladay then turned her attention to education and earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from The University of Alabama. In 1996, she received a certificate from the League for Innovation in the Community College at the Executive Leadership Institute in Newport Beach, California.
In addition to administrative positions, Mamie Howard Golladay’s professional career includes many teaching posts. Dr. Howard Golladay served as an Instructor for the Associate Degree Nursing course at Jefferson Davis Community College from 1976 to 1978. In 1978, she moved on to a 12-year span working as an Associate Professor at Pensacola Junior College (now Pensacola State College) until 1990. She taught a variety of classes at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan from 1990 through 1994. She then instructed at Montgomery College in Maryland from 1994 to 1998, when she joined SCCC. In 2000, while serving in her leadership role at SCCC, Mamie Howard Golladay became a League for Innovation in the Community College Faculty Member at the Executive Leadership Institute. As President of Sullivan County Community College, Mamie Howard Golladay increased the enrollment and acquired more external funding than any other previous president. Since retiring, she enjoys crossword puzzles, crocheting, and travel.
