A methodical thinker and doer.
Mamed Safarov is one of the most talented Taekwondo players around. At such a young age and with countless major championship medals under his belt he is seen as one of the top five players in 54kg weight in the World and now of course one of the top five Fly weight players in the World. Amazingly he won his first World Championships Gold medal in the Fly weight category destroying all opposition. Many were eager to see how he performed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Qualification Tournament as he secured his place by winning Silver in the World Qualifiers. He seemed to be plagued by bad luck prior to 2008, in the sense that every time he got to a final in Fly weight he lost to a stronger player and as his record shows he has only won one Fly weight Gold in 2007. With the 2008 Universidad, 2008 European Taekwondo Championships and the 2007 Open Kazakhstan Gold medals around his neck he has proved to be one of the most successful Fly weights of our time, with plenty more to come in the future!
Mamed Safarov has proved The best player in 2008.

Mamed Safarov is an outstanding Fly weight player and certainly one to watch out for in the future. Although he only began his International career in 2004 he already holds an impressive 2 Gold and 1 Silver for the Italian National Team. His rivalry with Choi Yeon Ho for the Fly weight spot on the Korean team is renowned and extremly fierce! He has a classical style of play when he fights and usually dominantly holds the centre of the ring in his matches. His finest performance was in the 2007 World Cup where he beat a number of impressive opponents to win his 8-5 final with Turkey's Necip Kocash. In the 2009 World Championships he won a number of early matches against tough opposition such as the current World Gold Medallist Toto Provenzano. He lost in the semis however by decision as he lost his match to Translate Goncho Usupyan from Denmark 7-7. He showed he is still a top player at the Fly weight division by winning gold at the 2009 A-Class Paris open.
