Manal Wicki

Being born of a Swiss father and an Emerati/Yemeni mother I feel a strong belonging to many different worlds. I was born in Switzerland but spent the first 10 years of my life living in Abu Dhabi. During my teenage years I lived in Switzerland after which I moved to London to pursue my studies in social anthropology. Towards the end of my studies the desire to become a documentary film-maker became increasingly clear to me. As a result I ventured off into that direction mainly by experimenting but also by join a few hands on film courses. So far I have directed three short documentaries: SoundEscapes (2007), Little Georgia (2010), and Layers (2011). I hope to continue on this path as I have a strong commitment and passion for making film and believe that there are yet many stories to unravel.
