Eng. Mangala Silva

Eng. Mangala Silva is a Sri Lankan Structural Engineer, engineering consultant, entrepreneur, and professional leader with over two decades of experience in structural engineering, sustainable construction, and multidisciplinary consultancy.

Born on 3 October 1976 in Kalutara, Sri Lanka, he is the only child of Joseph Silva, an art teacher, and Chandra Gamage, a homemaker.

He received his primary and secondary education at Holy Cross College, Kalutara, where he excelled academically, achieving the highest G.C.E. Ordinary Level (1992) and G.C.E. Advanced Level (Mathematics Stream) results in his school. He later graduated from the University of Moratuwa with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering in 2002 and completed a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering Design at the same university in 2008.

Following his graduation, he began his professional career as a Structural Design Engineer at Engineering Solutions (Pvt) Ltd before joining Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (ECL), where he developed extensive expertise in structural engineering. In 2009, together with Chartered Architect Sandun Herath, he co-founded Synergo Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, a multidisciplinary consultancy providing engineering, architectural, project management, and sustainable development services. He currently serves as the Principal Structural Engineer and Director of the company.

Eng. Silva has earned numerous professional qualifications and distinctions throughout his career. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (FIE(SL)), a Corporate Member of the Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka (MSSE(SL)), an International Professional Engineer (Int. PEng.(SL)), and a GreenSL® Accredited Professional accredited by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka.

His leadership extends beyond private practice. He currently serves as Vice President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) and has previously served as the Institution's Honorary Secretary and Council Member. He has also served as a Council Member of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), a Board Member of the Industrial Development Board of Sri Lanka (IDB), a Member of the Council of the University of Moratuwa, and a Director of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka. In addition, he serves as a Director of Ecotwin14 (Pvt) Ltd and has contributed to engineering education as a Senior Lecturer at TechVista Institute of Technology.

Widely recognized for his contributions to structural engineering, sustainable construction, and professional engineering leadership, Eng. Silva continues to play an active role in shaping Sri Lanka's engineering profession through innovation, institutional governance, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Family

Eng. Mangala Silva is married to Loretta Christeen Coorey (Born 1984)in 2007, a native of Payagala and a former student of Holy Family Convent, Kalutara. They are blessed with two daughters:
