Man Lu

Greetings, my name is Lu Man. I’m a full-time student now studying in City University of Hong Kong. I decided to study here mainly because I was interested in the city itself. Actually I planned to choose Language Studies to go deep into corpus linguistics as it was what I have studied in my university, but the agency who applied the university for me made a mistake, so I am here in literature stream in English Studies. (Maybe I should kick the agent and have my money returned)

I was born in Taizhou, a pretty costal city lies in the southern part of Zhejiang Province. After I finished my high school in my hometown, I went to Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) to study English as my major. Soon after I graduated, I pursuit further study in Applied Linguistics in University of York for my first Master's degree. During the time in York, I have attended courses like psycholinguistics, cross-culture interference as well as teaching methods, but I did not take some of these courses seriously. Actually, I have to admit that not until I took this programme, did I realize myself not interested in teaching. As for the programme I studied now, I would rather treat it as one of my interest than a stepping stone for my career, just because I do not like teaching.

Before I came Hong Kong, I have been working several months as a graphic designer in a small company which sold products overseas on line. I was employed as a translator at first, but as the company was new-born, the materials that needed translating was not settled yet, I soon had nothing to do after I figured out urgent ones. The manager was busy running a café then and he was managing the company as part of his avocation, for fun. Shortly after the company was established, he threw most of his works to another employee. Then the employee who have no ideas about how to make everything work, asked me to take designer's job, for he believed I must have the potential capacity that a designer should obtain, as I have three years' experiences of being a propaganda minister of Student Union in HDU. Thanks to him. Through a month's self-learning and practice, I am proficient in Photoshop(CS6), Corel Draw(x6) and Adobe Illustrator(CS6). I designed brochures, posters and webpages for the company and I have them all stored in my personal computer. If you are interested in designing, welcome to be my friends.
