Jose Manuel Otero, Ph.D

Dr. José Manuel Otero is currently the Senior Director, Bioprocess Development and PSAT at Seres Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRB). Seres is pioneering a new approach to fundamentally restore and maintain healthy microbiomes. Prior to Seres, he was a Director of Engineering and an Integrated Development & Supply Team Leader within Vaccine Manufacturing Sciences & Commercialization of Merck Manufacturing Division, Merck & Co., Inc. He specialized in supporting development programs for the Varivax™, Zostavax™, ProQuad™, and MMRII™ franchises. He was also previously Head of Fermentation Process Development, Vaccine Process Development within Merck Research Labs. He received a BS, Chemical Engineering, from MIT in 2001, a Master of Engineering degree, Biomedical Engineering, also from MIT in 2002. He received his PhD from the Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) in chemical and biological engineering, studying systems biology and metabolic engineering of yeast in the laboratory of Professor Jens Nielsen.
