Countryside Hearing Aid Services: Test to Evaluate Hearing

If you are having a hard time hearing, know that there is help for you. By having your hearing tested, you can learn more about how you can be helped. Various tests can be done says Countryside Hearing Aid Services.

Countryside Hearing Aid Services says one sort of examination that can be done to evaluate listening is a pure tone examination. In this testing, an audiologist will conduct a test similar to the kind that you may have had in an elementary class where one raises their hand if they hear a beep. This exam will allow the doctor to determine what is the lowest noise one can hear at various tones.

During this test, if earphones can’t be worn, the person may listen to speakers in a sound booth. Individuals are asked to either raise a finger, say yes when sounds are heard, or by pressing a button, then pointing to the ear that heard the sound. The only negative to this test is that it will not show if there hearing loss in only one ear.

Countryside Hearing Aid Services says there is also a speech test. This test will determine who well you listen by providing words that must be repeated back to the audiologist. You will be wearing headphones during this process. The doctor may perform the test in either a quiet space or a noisy one. However, it can prove to be better to have the rest done in noise as this is where individuals often experience the most trouble hearing.

A middle of the ear test can also be done. Countryside Hearing Aid Services says a series of three tests are used for this. Younger children must have this done as children ages 3 to 5 are more common to have an auditory loss due to middle ear issues.

The auditory brainstem response is a fourth test that can be performed for hearing loss. Electrodes are placed on your head and then connected to a computer. Brain wave activity is registered while the noises are playing. You can sit quietly during this test or you may even sleep.

The Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) test will have a small earphone placed in the ear.

If you have noticed that your hearing is not up to par, or others in your life have, consider making an appointment with an audiologist. They will be able to perform tests to evaluate your hearing. With a wide variety of tests, the doctor will be able to tell if you are experiencing hearing loss.

If you do need hearing devices, make sure to see a reputable service, such as Countryside Hearing Aid Services.
