Mariana Orantes

Mariana Orantes (Mexico City, 1986) is a writer and artist. She was part of the Processi 150 program at the Spanish Academy in Rome (RAER) from 2022-2023 and the 9th Independent Studies Program at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA). She has been a grantee of the FONCA Young Creators program in Poetry (2012) and Literary Essay (2021), as well as of the Foundation for Mexican Literature (FLM). In 2020, she received the Montserrat Roig Creative Writing Grant from the Barcelona City Council, stemming from her project “Cars, Fashion, and Punk Records,” which also received an Artist Residency Grant from FONCA. In 2024, she presented a poetic dialogue in the exhibition “Song for Many Movements” (MACBA). She is the author of two poetry books, as well as the literary essay books Satan’s Flea, The Gentleman Stay to Rest, Guided Tour of the World of the Dead, Paniske, or How Everything is Full of Goddesses, and Clavícula, soon to be published in Barcelona next year.
