Marc Ian Barasch
Marc founded the Green World Campaign in 2006 to restore degraded land, alleviate poverty, and improve food security and resilience among poor communities on the front lines of climate change. GWC has worked in 6 countries on 3 continents, planting 500,000 trees in 2014 in Kenya alone, where the charity also manages 100 Green World Schools programs comprising tens of thousands of children. The holistic approach he calls "green compassion" includes agro-ecology and reforestation; education; appropriate technology; social enterprise; conflict resolution; media, arts, and culture.
The organization grew out of his most recent book, The Compassionate Life, a bestseller which helped inspire the film "I Am" (in which he co-starred) and the Compassionate Cities Movement.
Marc has edited award-winning national magazines (New Age Journal, Natural Health, Psychology Today); produced and written global documentaries for Turner Broadcasting System and Discovery/Learning Channel; created new-media art installations on Times Square jumbotrons; created music projects with pop star Jason Mraz and Disney/Broadway composer Alan Menken. He was an original producer of National Public Radio's "E-Town," and helped found the psychology department at Naropa University.
