Marcel Bastiaansen
Marcel Bastiaansen obtained a master in Experimental Psychology (1996) and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience (cum laude) in 2000. From 2000 - 2012 he worked as a researcher both at the Donders Institute for Cognitive Neuroimaging and the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen. During that period his research focused on the relation between oscillatory neuronal dynamics and language comprehension, memory and attention. Marcel has extensive experience with EEG, MEG and combined EEG/fMRI ressearch.
In 2013 Marcel moved to NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, where he teaches quantitative research methods courses in the scientific bachelor and master programs of Leisure and Tourism. Next to continuing his research on the relation between neuronal oscillations and language comprehension, he has initiated both fundamental and applied research on the role of emotions in decision making, neuromarketing, and the EEG correlates of emotion categories. He is also involved in research on consumer behaviour and experiences in the performing arts industry, and has a keen in recent developments around the analysis of big data.
Facts and Figures
Marcel has published over 45 international, peer reviewed papers in top-level cognitive neuroscience journals, including Science, Neuron, Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, NeuroImage, PLoS One, and many others. He has delivered more than 35 international invited lectures about his research, in more than 10 different countries, from China to Scotland, and from Norway to Tenerife. Over the years, Marcel has acquired close to 0.5 million euro of research funding.
