Marcelo Pinheiro

I am a marine biologist with doctorate in Zoology at State of São Paulo University (UNESP - Universidade Estadual Paulista), in São Vicente (Brazil). I teach the disciplines of "Zoology of Invertebrates" and "Estuarine Systems" to the students of the Undergraduate Program in Biological Sciences (BS in Marine Biology and Coastal Management). I Develop research on biology, ecology and management of economically important decapod crustaceans (mainly crabs, etc.), with interest about the current state of conservation of coastal habitats, especially mangroves. Since 2009 I have been studying 18 areas of mangrove along the coast of São Paulo State (Brazil), evaluating their conservation status based on a qualitative study of metals in water, sediment and biota (Rhizophora mangle, mangrove tree; and Ucides cordatus, a mangrove crab).
