MARCIA LYONS is an American experimental performance artist, photographer and director. Lyons gained recognition in the New York art scene during the wave of Media + Performance Art, culminating in many awards, including the prestigious Jules Guerin ROME PRIZE in the Visual Arts at The American Academy in Rome. Fusing site and performance — her work is a brew, inhabiting the live-worlds and traditions of the public art and witnessing sphere, thickened with a rich cross-pollination of methods; painting, photography, sound, dramaturgy and media. In 2014, Lyons became the Creative Industries Researchy Institute (CIRI) Scholar of Media Arts, receiving a Doctorate from the Auckland University of Technology in partnership with the European Graduate School, Switzerland. Shooting underwater photography in various locations around the world and developing cinematic presentations of the human body, her latest series deviates from the stereotypical imagery associated with underwater photography and inspires a dynamic, contemporary neo-baroque, visual drama. Currently living and working in Palm Beach, Lyons has exhibited internationally, with solo shows in London, Rome, New York, Miami, Wiesbaden, Auckland and Tokyo.
