Rome
I’m a writer, a traveller, a story-teller. I live in Rome, Italy and in New York.
When I’m not on a boat, a train, a bus, a car, or walking around the world.
I started writing when I started travelling, early in my life.
One day, in 1989, I had the chance to meet Hugo Pratt, a great Venetian artist. He designed his character, Corto Maltese, in 1967. Corto is one of the best European graphic novels. A “Cult” in France. Corto is a sailor, an anti-hero who prefers his freedom and imagination to wealth.
He’s a modern Ulysses and his adventures are set during the first thirty years of the 1900s.
From 2004 until 2010 I travelled along all the places of Corto’s adventures in some of the most fascinating places of the world, from Venice to the Caribbean, from the steppes of Manchuria to the Danakil deserts or the Amazon forests and the waves of the Pacific.
I wrote what I felt, the people I met, the great changes of those places, the stories that I heard, trying to find a sort of an imaginary and literary connection with the Spirit of Corto’s Journeys.
“People don’t take trips, trips take people” said John Steinbeck, I know it’s true.
I understood what means to be uprooted, what means to feel foreign. I understood what means to change. Change is a sort of endlessy creation of oneself.
It doesn’t matter the exceptional Great Travel, what counts is the Journey and to have new eyes to be able to catch the wonderful world hidden in the indefinite space between the sight and the vision. Literature, photography and music is my kind of favorit transmedia style.
