Marc Walraven

urban farmer, builder, and problem solver in Fort Worth, TX, USA

I’m Marc Walraven, an urban farmer, builder, and problem-solver based in Fort Worth, Texas. After working for years as a mechanical engineer, I shifted my focus to something more meaningful—creating simple, sustainable ways for people to grow their own food, no matter where they live. I design and build low-tech, solar-powered vertical farming systems that use aeroponics—growing plants in air and mist instead of soil. My systems use very little water, take up minimal space, and are easy to build and maintain. I started this journey in my backyard with buckets and PVC pipes, and today I run UrbanRooted Innovations, helping schools, veterans, and underserved communities set up their own local food systems. I also teach free workshops around Fort Worth to share what I’ve learned. My mission is to keep things simple, accessible, and community-driven. I believe real change starts local, and that growing food isn’t just a skill—it’s a form of empowerment.
