A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Margaret Kelly Burkhead, MD received numerous awards and recognitions during and beyond her educational career.

In the fourth year of her medical degree, Dr. Burkhead was one of two students selected to help acclimatize new medical students to the university environment, ensuring they maintained a balanced life throughout their studies.

During her schooling, Margaret Burkhead served on the Alumni Association Student Panel, and was awarded a Student Leadership and Service Award in her final year.

Following her studies at the University of Maryland, Dr. Burkhead completed residencies at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill, and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego (in pediatrics). From 2002 to 2004, she held an internship at Duke University School of Medicine, where she received the Resident Role Model Award.

After seven years at Raleigh Family Practice, PA in North Carolina, Dr. Burkhead continues to share her knowledge as an adjunct professor at UNC Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine.
