Margot Poesy-Tate
Amsterdam, Netherlands
I grew up under the spirit and influence of two parents deeply involved in the arts. My mother was a photographer, and my father a descendant of Henry Tate, was heavily involved in proceedings at the museum, and other philanthrophic works.
I have fond memories of nursing my brain with the human connections I found in literature, my first love. Throughout my teens I struggled to find an outlet for my creativity, photography seemed too ideologically detached to me. In college I settled nicely into the niche of filmmaking.
But I wanted to have an understanding of the wider effect of all the visual stimulation, good and bad, swirling around in our world. So I left for Berlin to get my masters in Visual Anthropology, which is now my main focus.
In addition to my own filmmaking and academic work, I often will do editorial peices and critiques for various magazines and newspapers, and split my time between Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam, with pretty regular trips back to the states. That is when I'm not travelling somewhere else entirely, as I am so lucky to be able to do for my work.
