Maria Hughes first knew she wanted to practice employment law only a year or two out of law school, when she represented a family member who had been demoted based upon his age. The experience made Maria realize how important the workplace is a person's life. Over the years, her practice has involved everything from giving employers preventative advice (such as handbooks, policies, trainings, and investigations) to representing clients in litigation before the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, the EEOC, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and state and federal courts. Because she has represented both employers and employees, she has gained a well-rounded legal perspective that allows her to anticipate the opposition's arguments and litigate more effectively.
