About 17 years ago after I graduated high school, I discovered a web site called Geocities and took my first Intro to Computers class at a local community college. Thereafter, I began a journey towards building computers, learning applications and languages, and building web applications. I played with Macromedia Flash (now Adobe) and even got my first techie job as a Multimedia Developer (developing html pages, and Shockwave/Macromedia Director applications).
Let's face it. No one ever says I want to grow up to be a programmer. It just happens to them, much like it happened to me.
I've come a long way from that computer lab trying to write my first web page. The terrible table-based, comic-sans fonts, animated .GIF over a pink background, huge .BMP images, and the final web page meant to load in less than one minute on dial up, AOL connection. Thankfully, I connected with people who eventually became my mentors so I could be more than just a web developer. I learned to love data, databases, and SQL programming. I became an enthusiastic Visual Studio developer. And I spent tireless hours in a relationship with Adobe.
What's going to happen now? I'm content being a developer and in the industry I'm in, there's always something new to learn. However, it would be foolish to be too content, so absolutely! I am open to opportunities. Who knows? Maybe one day, I can actually put my MBA to use.
