Interaction Designer in San Francisco, California
I'm an interaction designer with a background in physics and electronics. By day I'm a senior designer at Apple working on Siri with an amazing team. Before that I was Design Director at Adaptive Path in San Francisco where I led and worked on richly varied design strategy, research, and interaction design challenges.
I'm active in the global design community and serve locally as organizer for IxDA San Francisco, one of the largest chapters of the Interaction Design Association. I curate and host IxDA SF events that feature designers and thinkers speaking on a breadth of compelling topics, including data and meaning, and team and organizational design. UX in Outer Space, which I organized with Ariel Waldman, brought together six speakers from across NASA, the SETI Institute, Adaptive Path, and Cooper for talks on the weirdness and challenges of designing for user experience in orbit –– and beyond.
For fun I enjoy using computation as an expressive medium. The background image is a still of immersive interactive and computationally generated Calligraphic Video smoke and video effects I created in collaboration with Delphine Nain at the Topological Media Lab. The effect is powered by Navier-Stokes fluid equations, programmed in C and driven by Max/MSP/Jitter. Projected in public spaces, the work is highly responsive to movement and leads to natural and engaging play.
Oh, and I'm also an amateur photographer and competitive driver, and licensed amateur radio operator W6IXD.
