Communications in Sri Lanka

From video reporting to writing articles, always communicating for a cause.

Born and raised in Barcelona area, I pursued my career as a journalist. After 10 years in newspapers, television stations, press agencies and news agencies; a few of them trying to combine my communications work with my passion for nonprofits and volunteering, I made a decision. I wanted to make a career out of my passion.

I live in Sri Lanka now, where I work as a Communications Consultant for Educate Lanka. My duties are creating contents for the Social Media and digital platforms, as well as create stories and actions to let our voice be heard. My goal is to raise awareness of difficult situations and problems in my environment to make people work together to solve them. Education, women empowerment, health, housing... All the basic need we usually have covered in our comfy homes can´t be taken for granted and are a right that everyone has.

Being in Sri Lanka and witnessing the terrible consequences of the floods in March of 2016, I started engaging in my own charity and development projects. With a group of volunteers and the help of friends and family we were able to provide books and school supplies to Boralakada Sarananda Buddhist Monastery and Pirivena (buddhist school) and the Boralankada Kanishta Vidyalaya (public rural school). Next, I´m determined to help the Nooraniya MMV school in Uyanwatta to build the ground floor of their new building to allocate classrooms for the 850 students.

Now, I think of communications as a way to end situations of vulnerability and the suffering of people wherever I go. Spread the word, share the story, let the voiceless be heard and make the world a fairer place for all.
