I come from a carribean island. Where the sun is always shining and people are always happy. One of my hobbies, traveling to every corner of my country, the Dominican Republic, has shaped my character and the way I look at things.

One of the trips I look back at the most was when we went to El Pico Duarte, the highest point in the carribean. They were 5 days of exhausting walks, climbs and falls but as well 5 days of pure nature and bliss. Nature transported me to a place of inner peace and made me focus on what really mattered to me in life. And the bliss came from surrounding myself with people who have so little and yet enjoyed life to the fullest, sometimes these are the people you learn the most from.

Although they were really happy, I saw so much neccesity among these people. Nearby businesses took advantage of their far away location from the cities to charge them high prices for essential -- like medicine. It struck me to see how the people I had enjoyed being with so much for the past days were being treated so unfairly.

This trip was the first time I noticed an unbalanced trade in my country. After many other national travels I have seen that this does not only occur in the Pico Duarte's community but in many others across the DR.

I remember reading Anne Frank's words "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

I thought to myself there had to be a way to improve the Pico Duarte's community and all the others access to goods. Meaning soemone had to deliver the goods that these people needed in a fair way.

Seeing the existing problems in my country shaped the path I wanted to follow. I wanted to do business, but not in any fashion, I was and am driven to make business in an equitable way.
