Maria Emilia Masci

Archaeologist and expert of Information Technologies and applications for Cultural Heritage, her main research fields are: classic archaeology, in particular South Italian antiquities, Greek and South Italian vases and History of Collections.
She is also known for her competences in the field of Digital Libraries, more in particular: knowledge organization, metadata standards, thesauri and ontologies for cultural resources.
Currently employed in the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (SNS), Italy, with a Research Grant on: Methodologies, tools and best practices for the knowledge organization, indexing and retrieval, technical and semantic interoperability of digital cultural resources in the area of Digital Libraries.
Arts degree, Archaeology section, at the University of Florence with a final thesis in History of the Archaeology (1999); PHD degree in “Archaeology of the Magna Grecia” (2003) at the University of Naples “Federico II” with a final dissertation on collections of Greek and South Italian vases during the XVIII century.
Since 2002 works as researcher at SNS in research projects on Digital Humanities and IT applications for CH.
She was twice Invited researcher at the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA), Paris.
Scientific coordinator and co-researcher in national and EU projects in the Digital Libraries sector. Cooperates as consultant with the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage (MiBAC), with other National Departments and with private companies operating in the field of Digital Humanities.
