I am both Maryam and Mariam..

An Independent Writer and Researcher. Received my B.A. degree in Mass Communication and Print Journalism from The American University of Sharjah , and my M.A in Global Media and Postnational Communication, studying the Iraqi Diaspora in London, from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. I also completed a Research Fellowship in the Open University in London on the BBC coverage of Egyptian Elections and the interplay between new media and old media in BBC Arabic.

I worked in publishing, media strategy and cultural production in the UAE and the UK.

My research interests are in the areas of Iraqi Diaspora, cultural politics, ME art and culture, new media and post-national communications.

I am currently researching changes in the Iraqi Identity from 1940's, and the possibilities of reviving the multiculturalism project.
