The recipient of a bachelor's degree in political science and international studies from Northwestern University, Mariana Karampelas subsequently earned a juris doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, graduating cum laude, serving as a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and winning Center for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction awards for trial advocacy, first amendment, and pre-trial litigation. Treasurer of both the university’s Student Humanitarian Network and Hellenic Law Students Association, Mariana Karampelas began a career as a judicial law clerk to Judge Lee Preston after gaining experience as a certified mediator with the school's Mediation Clinic, later holding the same role for Judge David B. Atkins.

Since 2015, Mariana Karampelas has served as principal of Chicago, Illinois-based MK Law, specializing in real estate transactions, commercial closings, and property tax appeals, with a 100 percent success rate in injunction hearings and civil trials regarding contract and consumer matters. In addition, Mariana Karampelas holds membership with the Chicago Bar Association, Hellenic Bar Association, and National Lawyers Guild.
