Marian Lamoureux Hinsdale

Piano Teacher in Hinsdale

Marian Lamoureux of Hinsdale has taught piano for more than four decades, working with both children and adults from her home studio. She was born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania in 1959 and moved with her family to Ontario, Canada when she was five. Piano lessons began at seven; teaching began at sixteen. She trained at the University of Western Ontario, where she completed an Honors Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Bachelor of Education, earning scholarships to the university and to the Banff School of Fine Arts.

She received her teaching certification in 1984 and worked for ten years in the Ontario school system while running a private piano studio and raising three children. In 1999 she moved with her family to Illinois and spent the following decade caring for her children full-time. One venture she helped support during that period was the theater company founded by her daughter, which began in the backyard and now operates a 200-seat venue. She still serves as the company's financial manager.

Today she divides her time between teaching, family, and the things that have always grounded her: cooking, hiking, cycling, and time at a cottage in Canada. Her students regularly perform in recitals and prepare for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations.
