Maria Smilios is a regular contributor to Narratively, and her work has been published or is forthcoming in Role/Reboot, Literary Mama, Feministing, Killing the Buddha Blog, The Grub Street Free Press, and Queens Mamas among others.
She holds an MA from Boston University in Religion & Literature where she was a Henry Luce Scholar and a Presidential Scholar. She spent four years teaching Essay & Research writing in Boston University's Writing Program before moving back to New York to teach at an all-girls high school, where she created and ran an intensive summer writing program for teens.
She is currently at work on a series of essays inspired by New York City Playgrounds.
She has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.
