Maria Sych
Graduate Student in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Maria is a Master of Public Administration student at Grand Valley State University, specializing in Nonprofit Management. She previously attended Central Michigan University, where she obtained a B.S. in Public Administration and minor in Museum Studies. Her prominent areas of study include recruitment, civic engagement, and fundraising in nonprofits and museums. Maria has worked for nonprofits around Michigan, specifically museums, as well as a recruiter for the Chicago office of a well-known consulting firm that represents various nonprofit and charitable organizations. Her recent work includes contribution to a paper on land banks in Michigan presented at the 2011 Annual American Society of Public Administration (ASPA) Conference in Baltimore, MD; an article on citizen engagement; and currently she is working on a study regarding donor-advised funds in community foundations. Her current plans include completing her MPA, moving back to a large city, and working as a consultant for nonprofit organizations. Maria was born in Marquette, Northern Michigan, and has lived throughout the Great Lakes Region her whole life. In her spare time she enjoys film, travel, cooking and the outdoors.
