Marilyn Hajicek

Denver, Colorado

As the founder of Blue Trout Resources, Marilyn Hajicek is a personal historian who works with individuals, families, and communities throughout Colorado. Based in Denver, she conducts interviews and creates either print media or combines the footage with photographs, music, and other memorabilia to produce a DVD that tells the story of a family or community. Ms. Hajicek offers her professional services on a volunteer basis for older people who cannot afford the cost associated with a video biography.

Marilyn Hajicek's passion for community history extends to a current project interviewing members of a family spread across the United States and Ireland. Her research into this family's history forms part of a broader project focused on the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. In addition to visiting historical and archaeological sites, Marilyn Hajicek has undertaken extensive research at a museum in Cobh, the port from which many Irish immigrants to America departed. She has identified and reviewed numerous tax records, newspaper articles, and historical reference works dating back to the early 19th century. The results of her research are anticipated for publication as a coffee table-style book late this year.

Prior to establishing Blue Trout Resources, Ms. Hajicek had a lengthy career as hydrogeologist and manager of environmental remediation efforts throughout Colorado. She continues to be involved in natural resource issues as a member of the Geological Society of America, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and the Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust. She supports the Cayton Ranger Station Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving America's second-oldest ranger station for public education and use.
