Marilyn Kelley Art
Bio
I am Marilyn Kelley and I love to paint! My mom is an artist, although at 95 she doesn't paint anymore, she was always my inspiration. Every piece of art in our home was original, either from my mom or her artist friends. I can remember mom holding art classes in our basement when I was a kid. Sadly, I had no interest in art, when I was younger. My mom tried to teach me, but I didn't want to be bothered with learning theory or even learning to draw. I just wanted to sit down and play with the paints.
It wasn't until I was in my 50's that I picked up a brush. Donna Dewberry inspired me to learn how to paint roses. I was horrible at it, but my mom convinced me not to try and paint roses based on someone else's technique, but to paint them just as I saw them. Once I stopped trying to imitate other artists, I developed my own style. I am a self taught artist and my favorite subjects are birds and roses.
I paint in acrylics and watercolors, but spend most of my time porcelain painting. They say that it's a dying art. I think the expense of purchasing a kiln is what keeps many from trying their hand at porcelain painting. I have found it well worth the expense of a kiln and it has become my favorite painting medium.
I am a mom, grandma and great grandma. I share my home with my dog, Harley and my cat, Bailey, both rescued from the SPCA.
In my spare time (what's that?) I love to sew and garden. I'm not a big tv watcher, although it's on most of the day for background noise. I love the Golden Girls, Everybody Loves Raymond and Designing Women, so most of my tv watching is from dvds.
