Hire me

Mario Hegseth is an American orthopedic surgeon with clinical experience in both the United States and international medical settings. I was raised in Houston, Texas, a city whose medical community played a significant role in shaping my early interest in surgery and patient care. Growing up near major hospitals and academic institutions exposed me early to the impact that skilled physicians can have on individuals and communities, and that exposure ultimately guided my decision to pursue medicine.

I completed my medical training in the United States, earning my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree after undergraduate studies focused on the biological sciences. I went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery, where I received broad and rigorous training in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. My training emphasized orthopedic trauma, fracture management, joint pathology, and both surgical and non-surgical approaches to restoring mobility and function. During residency, I developed a strong appreciation for practical, adaptable surgery, skills that translate across different healthcare environments.

Following residency, I entered orthopedic practice with a focus on comprehensive patient care. My clinical work has included treating acute injuries, degenerative joint disease, and complex fractures, with an emphasis on long-term function and recovery. Over time, my interests expanded beyond conventional practice settings to include global and international medical work, particularly in regions where access to specialized surgical care is limited.

I am currently practicing orthopedic surgery in Yemen under a contractual medical appointment. In this role, I provide surgical and trauma-related care in a challenging, resource-constrained environment. The work requires flexibility, broad clinical judgment, and close collaboration with local and international healthcare professionals. Practicing in Yemen has reinforced the importance of prioritization, efficiency, and clinical adaptability, while underscoring the universal need for high-quality surgical care regardless of geography.

My areas of practice include orthopedic trauma, fracture management, and the treatment of bone and joint disorders, with particular attention to functional outcomes in complex circumstances. I am especially interested in how orthopedic surgery can be delivered effectively outside of high-resource systems, and how surgeons can adapt their skills to meet diverse patient needs.

Although my work currently takes place abroad, I continue to identify Houston, Texas as my home and maintain strong ties to the city. My career reflects a balance between traditional American surgical training and nontraditional international clinical practice. I remain committed to providing thoughtful, ethical, and effective orthopedic care, wherever that care is needed.
