Marishel Diaz
Teacher in Fort Collins, Colorado
Hello! I’m Marishel Diaz, an educator with a deep passion for fostering learning and creating safe, inclusive spaces for all students. My journey in education has been shaped by my diverse background and experiences, and I’m committed to helping others find a sense of belonging in their educational journey.
I was born in Mexico City, Mexico, where I attended the American School Foundation, and later moved to Cancun, where I completed high school at the International American School of Cancun. My desire to further my education brought me to Colorado, where I attended Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins. At CSU, I earned a triple major in English, Spanish, and Human Development and Family Studies, followed by a double master’s degree in English with a specialization in TEFL/TESL and Languages, Literatures, and Cultures with a concentration in Spanish.
My career in education began with teaching part-time at K-12 schools within Poudre School District, working as a tutor at The Institute for Learning and Teaching (TILT) at CSU, and instructing at CSU. These roles gave me invaluable experience in understanding the diverse needs of students and the importance of creating a supportive learning environment.
I then moved to Culver, Indiana, where I taught Spanish and Leadership at a private military boarding school. This experience allowed me to integrate rigorous academic content with moral and character development, further shaping my approach to education.
Today, I am proud to serve as the lead Dual Language teacher at Boltz Middle School in Fort Collins, Colorado. This position is incredibly meaningful to me as it aligns perfectly with my identity as a BIPOC individual and my lifelong commitment to helping others find a place of belonging. I strive to bring a global perspective into the classroom, ensuring that all students feel seen, heard, and valued.
While my ultimate goal is to pursue a PhD, I am currently focused on making a meaningful impact in the lives of my students and continuing to grow as an educator. I believe in the power of education to transform lives, and I am dedicated to creating a classroom environment where every student can thrive.
