Mark Burke

Mark is a Senior Architect with 25 years industry experience. He has worked on projects from a variety of vertical markets ranging from Telecoms to Financial and Medical. He is an
expert in distributed systems and the inherent problems associated with such systems, including distributed transactions and security.

While being a well-rounded architect, Mark is also fluent in many programming languages and integrated development environments and likes to be hands-on and is open to new advances in the industry. He has significant experience in Java,
C/C++, CORBA, SOA, Spring Framework, Hibernate/SQL, UML and Design Patterns.

Mark held a position as a Senior Consultant with Iona Technologies for 4 years, where he consulted and mentored numerous international companies on Distributed
Object Technology. He was also instrumental in the CORBA/TMN interworking RFP which was subsequently ratified by the OMG. Prior to working at Iona, He worked in L.M. Ericsson where he helped pioneer some of the early VPN prototypes. He also has significant experience in Telecoms Network Management, in particular TMN.

Mark worked as a Senior Engineer at Rococo Software for 4 years where he was deeply involved in the Design and Architecture of Java-Bluetooth related technologies, Mobility Solutions, and Enterprise Parlay applications for the Rococo MobileFrontier product suite.

In 2006, Mark founded Hook Head Software, a company specialising in consultancy and resourcing for high-end, highly skilled IT positions. In addition to providing consultancy & resourcing, Hook Head also provides a free IT jobs portal (hookhead.com), and a cloud-based accounting system, primarily aimed at contractors and small businesses (virtualaccountant.ie). Mark developed both of these services from scratch, and continues to maintain them going forward.
