Mark Lombard joined the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in November 2007 as the Bioscience Industrial Development Program Director, focused on the creation, retention, and expansion of life science jobs in North Carolina. Prior to joining the NCBC, Mark was the Business Development Manager for Life Sciences in the International Trade Division of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, working closely with the NC Trade Offices in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Mark brought to Commerce my 13 years of industry experience as a biochemist and molecular biologist at Pharmacia (now part of Pfizer), GlaxoSmithKline, and Amgen.
He is originally from the Midwest, received BS and MS degrees in Biology from Western Michigan University, and an MBA in BioSciences Management from North Carolina State University in May 2009. Mark's professional background as a scientist with top tier biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies together with his recent international business and economic development experience has enabled him to consult, influence and negotiate with all levels of senior management and has given him the ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate with diverse audiences. Mark has given effective presentations to small groups of C-level executives as well as large audiences, including international groups in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
