Mark Nava

Champaign, Illinois, United States

I am a soon-to-be graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Communications, as well as working on obtaining a PR certificate. I am an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at the UIUC campus.

I am pursuing a career in the field of PR and aspire to work at a firm in the near future. I'd like to work for a company in which the culture is team-oriented, exciting, competitive, accepting and fast-paced. I enjoy being able to socialize in the work place, challenging myself and colleagues, while still maintaining an outstanding work ethic.

I have previously served on the PR team for Roger Ebert’s Film Festival (Ebertfest), working as the Social Media Content Director, and I absolutely loved it! Through my experiences with this internship, social media has become a huge interest of mine. I enjoy social media: It provides an entertaining experience when working and it’s a rewarding job when you see the “likes” and “shares” on your specific posts.

Along side with the Ebertfest internship, I also interned for The Illini Media Company. I primarily work with the school's yearbook staff, promoting sales as well as bringing awareness to the yearbook; planning events, creating ads, and also using social media to promote the yearbook were my main tasks. This internship has allowed me to not only develop my PR skills, but has also introduced me to the marketing side of of the spectrum.

When not working or attending class, I truly enjoy playing sports, primarily tennis and volleyball. I also like to stay in shape and go to the gym regularly to get my" sweat on".

I'm a people-person, so I love attending social events and meeting new people. Laughing, chatting and enjoying the company of others are my specialties.
