Mark Slattery
Director in Canterbury, New Zealand
Mark Slattery has traveled around the planet some 60 times. Slattery spent 20 years in China, including 18 months language study and is fluent in Mandarin. Slattery also lived and studied in the United States and also worked in Latvia for 12 months.
Slattery initially had a role in banking. At the age of 30, he began to operate a number of assorted New Zealand based businesses. Slattery operated two multi-million dollar facilities for the care of the elderly, established a New Zealand national computer hardware import and distribution operation, and achieved some 10 million dollars of sales in green-fields operations, including sales to Australasian Fortune 500 companies. In the early 2000’s, Slattery went on to establish a number of offshore based companies with an assorted international clientele base, developing an extensive supplier network throughout China. In between business activities, in the late 1990’s, he spent time at the University of California, USA, completing a business degree. He went on to spend 18 months in Xi’an, China, as a full time student, learning Chinese, allowing him to now speak Chinese fluently.
Slattery’s passion is based around internet technologies, international business development projects, and support of local communities. He says “I am interested in exploring ideas, connecting with people, and engaging with the community. My hope is that collectively we can produce change facilitated by technology that contributes positively to the diverse communities of planet Earth.”
Specifically, he observed business platforms generally lack a set of cohesive tools that allow businesses to more efficiently engage in both business activities, while better connecting with the local community.
This led to the birth of ONETALKX.COM - a business that seeks to better connect buyers and sellers, and network with local communities to fundraise for worthwhile community causes.
